How much does landscaping cost on the Kapiti Coast?
Every project is different, so costs vary depending on the scope of work, materials, site access and complexity. As a rough guide, a standard timber deck might start from around $8,000–$15,000, retaining walls from $5,000–$20,000+, and paving from $100–$180 per square metre - but these are indicative only. The best way to get an accurate price is to book a free consultation so we can assess your specific site and requirements.
How long does a typical landscaping project take?
It depends on the scope of work. A straightforward deck or fence might take 3–5 days, while larger projects like full retaining wall systems, earthworks or complete outdoor transformations can take 2–4 weeks. We'll give you a realistic timeline in your quote and keep you updated throughout the build
Do I need a building consent for my project?
Some projects require building consent from the Kāpiti Coast District Council. Retaining walls over 1.5 metres in height, certain fences, and structures that affect drainage or boundaries may need consent. We're experienced with the process and will advise you upfront if your project requires it — and we can help manage it for you.
What areas do you service?
We're based in Paraparaumu Beach and service the entire Kāpiti Coast including Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Waikanae Beach, Raumati Beach, Raumati South, Paekākāriki, Ōtaki and Te Horo. We also work in Porirua, Levin and the wider Horowhenua. For larger projects, we're happy to travel further afield - just ask.
Do you work on both residential and commercial properties?
Yes. We work across both residential and commercial projects — from backyard transformations and new build landscaping through to larger-scale commercial site works, retaining walls and outdoor areas for businesses.
Common questions about materials, methods and what to expect during your landscaping project.
What type of decking is best for coastal areas?
For Kapiti's coastal environment, we recommend using stainless steel fixings with either quality treated hardwood or composite decking such as Millboard. Both options handle salt air, wind and UV well. Composite is lower maintenance long-term but costs more upfront. Timber is more cost-effective and gives a natural look but needs regular staining. We'll help you weigh up the options during your consultation.
What materials do you use for retaining walls?
We build retaining walls using timber poles and sleepers, concrete block systems, and gabion baskets — depending on the height, site conditions and the look you're after. All our retaining walls are built with proper drainage and to the NZ Building Code, whether or not consent is required.
What types of paving do you offer?
We work with concrete pavers, natural stone, porcelain tiles and exposed aggregate concrete. The right option depends on your budget, the look you want and where it's going — driveways need different specs to a patio or garden path. We'll walk you through the options and recommend what works best for your property
Can you work on sloped or difficult sections?
Absolutely - that's a big part of what we do. The Kapiti Coast has plenty of sloped and challenging sections. We have earthmoving equipment on hand and extensive experience building retaining walls, terracing and drainage solutions to turn unusable slopes into functional outdoor spaces.
What happens if the weather delays my project?
We build weather contingency into our project timelines. If heavy rain or extreme conditions mean we can't work safely or to the right standard, we'll let you know and adjust the schedule. We'd rather pause for a day than compromise the quality of your finished project.
Do you handle earthworks and site preparation?
Yes. We provide full earthworks and excavation services including site levelling, trenching, drainage installation, and new build site preparation. Whether you need a small dig for a retaining wall foundation or large-scale excavation for a new build, we've got the equipment and experience to handle it.
