Professional Garden & Planting Services Across the Kapiti Coast

The hard landscaping sets the structure – but it’s the planting, lawns and garden beds that bring an outdoor space to life.

Whether you want a new lawn established for the kids to play on, established garden beds with year-round colour, native planting for low maintenance and privacy, or a full garden redesign to complement new hard landscaping, Legendary Landscapes handles the green side of outdoor transformation.

We provide garden planting and lawn services for residential and commercial properties across Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Porirua, Otaki and the wider Kapiti Coast. We select plants suited to your soil, aspect and the local coastal conditions – so everything we put in the ground has the best chance of thriving long-term.

Gardens & Planting FAQs

Common questions about our garden planting and lawn services on the Kapiti Coast.

How much does garden planting cost on the Kapiti Coast?
Costs depend on the size of the area, the number and type of plants, soil preparation required and whether you need lawn laid. As a rough guide, ready-lawn starts from around $18-$25 per square metre installed, and garden planting varies depending on the plant selection and density. We provide a clear quote after visiting your property so you know exactly what to expect.
What's the difference between ready-lawn and hydroseeding?
Ready-lawn is pre-grown turf that's cut, rolled and laid on your prepared site - it gives you an instant established lawn within days. Hydroseeding is a spray-on mix of seed, fertiliser, mulch and water that grows into a lawn over 6-8 weeks. Ready-lawn costs more but gives immediate results. Hydroseeding is more cost-effective for larger areas but takes time to establish. We'll recommend the best option based on your site and timeline.
When is the best time of year to plant on the Kapiti Coast?
On the Kapiti Coast, the best planting window is autumn (March-May) and spring (September-November) when soil temperatures and moisture levels support strong root establishment. Lawns are best laid in spring and autumn too. We can plant year-round for most species, but we'll advise you if timing is a factor for your specific project.
Do you supply the plants or do I need to buy them?
We supply everything. We source plants from trusted local nurseries and select species suited to your specific site conditions - soil type, sun, wind and salt exposure. If you have particular plants you'd like included, we're happy to work with your preferences. We also supply all topsoil, compost, mulch and lawn as part of the project.
What plants work best in Kapiti's coastal conditions?
We recommend a mix of hardy coastal-tolerant species for Kapiti properties. Native options like pohutukawa, flax, hebe, griselinia, corokia and coastal grasses handle salt air and wind well. For non-native gardens, we select species proven to thrive locally. We always consider your maintenance preferences - if you want low upkeep, we'll design the planting accordingly.
